The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra has 24 full-time
core musicians and performs more than 150 concerts per year. The orchestra's
season includes seven classical concerts, a chamber music series;
a holiday pops concert, run-out concerts and other concerts, including
a large number of educational performances of all sizes. The annual
budget is $1.2 million.
Duties:
Responsible for the overall artistic development of
the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra; oversee the selection of musicians,
guest artists, and repertoire; conduct the majority of the orchestra's
rehearsals and concerts; artistically develop new educational and
outreach programs for diverse audiences; participate in promotional
and fundraising activities; assume a leadership role in the cultural
life of the community. Position begins July 1, 2005.
Qualifications:
Exceptional musical ability; knowledge of a broad range
of repertoire; strong interpersonal and leadership skills; and ability
and desire to make symphonic music relevant and exciting for new as
well as existing audiences.
