ANNUAL PEOPLE'S CONCERT- free event - January 13, 2006


SHREVEPORT – Celebrate Cultural Diversity when the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and the Community Foundation of Shreveport-Bossier presents its 14th annual People’s Concert under the direction of Resident Conductor Kermit Poling , at 7:30 pm Jan. 13, 2006 at Shreveport’s Civic Theatre.

The People’s Concert will highlight works by diverse composers including William Grant Still and Joseph Schwantner. The program will also include Gospel favorites made popular by the well-known Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. The concert will be dedicated to the memory of the late Herman Finley, who was actively involved in the creation of this annual event for the past several years.

Area radio personality Daddy Ro will serve as narrator for Schwantner's symphonic work, New Morning for the World, based upon texts by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. . The other featured guest artist for the evening is Paster Joseph Lindsey, a well-known Gospel recording artist . The Symphony will be joined by a large mass choir composed of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church , Little Union Baptist Church , Midway Baptist Church and Avenue Baptist Church Choirs, plus the Lone Wa Sanctuary Singers and the Interdenominational Ensemble from ULM under the direction of S. Royce Mosley.

 

Tickets to the 14th annual People’s Concert are free; however, a ticket is required for admission. Free tickets are available at the following locations in the Shreveport-Bossier area: all Goodwill Stores, The Shreveport Sun, County Market Grocery Stores, Little J’s Music, Garland’s Supersound, Gospel ll Go, and at the Shreveport Symphony’s Box Office located on the 4 th floor of the Strand Theatre building.

The 14th Annual People’s Concert is made possible through a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Shreveport Bossier. The 2005-2006 Season of the Shreveport Symphony is supported by grants from the Shreveport Regional Arts Council with funds from the City of Shreveport. The Best Western Chateau Suite Hotel in Shreveport is the official hotel of the Shreveport Symphony.
