Few composers changed the course of music as profoundly as Ludwig van Beethoven. This program brings two of his most celebrated works to the stage, pairing virtuosic piano playing with the driving energy of one of his most exhilarating symphonics.
Pianist Claire Huangci joins the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra for Beethoven's Piano Concerto in D Major, Op. 61a, his own arrangement of his Violin Concerto. The work transforms the original into a brilliant showcase for the piano, retaining the lyrical beauty and expansive character of the concerto while giving the soloist an entirely new way to explore its music.
The second half turns to Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, a work celebrated for it irresistible rhythmic energy and momentum. From its propulsive opening to its exhilarating finale, the symphony builds with remarkable intensity, making this one of Beethoven's most thrilling orchestral works.
Together, these two works reveal different sides of Beethoven's musical voice: lyrical and expansive in the concerto, bold and electrifying in the symphony.
