In-person full symphony concerts that bring students into the concert hall for a one-of-a-kind live music experience
The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra's Student Discovery Concerts are a cornerstone of our educational outreach, designed to introduce elementary-aged students to the world of orchestra music in an engaging, accessible, and inspiring way. At the heart of this initiative are two Discovery Concerts held annually at the RiverView Theater, featuring the full symphony orchestra. These concerts will welcome an estimated 2,500 students in grades 3-5 from across Northwest Louisiana.
By cultivating these early musical experiences, the Student Discovery Concerts help foster not only future audiences for the arts, but also curious, creative learners!
This year's concerts will be a stunning combination of both our partnership program Link Up with Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall and Camille Saint-Saens' clever, witty, and humorous Carnival of the Animals. Link Up: The Orchestra Sings: Melody is one of the universal elements of music and defines the music we know and love. A great melody can express ideas and emotions, help tell a story, and bring people together through song. Composers create melodies through a combination of rhythmic patterns, sweeping contours, and expressive qualities. Through the Link Up repertoire, hands-on activities, and a culminating interactive performance with a professional orchestra, we will explore what makes a melody great.
