Give to Your Shreveport Symphony
For over seven decades, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra has brought world-class performances, educational youth programs, and accessible community concerts to the Ark-La-Tex region. None of this is possible without the extraordinary generosity of donors like you. Your gift directly fuels our artistic excellence on stage, expands music education in local schools, and keeps symphonic performances affordable and accessible across North Louisiana. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a lasting impact on our community’s cultural landscape.

TODAY'S ECONOMY
Regardless of the cost to perform live, if tickets were priced at a level that would cover that cost, it would be impossible to serve our audience due to the financial burden it would place on the average ticket buyer. To lessen that burden, we work very hard to cultivate every opportunity possible to bring down the cost of each individual ticket through individual, corporate, and government contributions. In the present economic climate, however, both corporate and government support is down, which means the average ticket buyer counts on the generosity of individual donors even more to help keep the cost of tickets down. We are doing everything possible to continue to deliver the highest quality art to our patrons, but we need your help to do it.
HOW CAN I BE PART OF THE SOLUTION?
There are many ways that you can sustain the work of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and help us to continue to bring high-quality music to the area:
Purchase tickets for family & Friends:
Ticket sales may only account for 40% of our needed income, but it is still the largest single category of income to the Symphony. Consider purchasing tickets as gifts for your family and friends. It's the perfect gift for holidays, special occasions, and birthdays. What's better than the gift of joy?
honor or memorialize a friend:
Nothing says that you love and respect the difference an individual has made to the community like honoring them through a donation. You can honor your friends or family members by making a named donation in their honor and still receive 100% of the benefits accompanying that donation!
gift of stock:
Instead of writing a check, a relatively painless way to support the Symphony is to donate shares of stock. When you contribute shares of publicly-traded companies that you have held for more than one year, you can get a tax deduction for the full value of the stock. An added benefit is that you avoid the capital gains tax you would have to pay if you sold the stock first and then donated the proceeds of the sale!
in-kind gifts:
In-kind gifts can be an important source of support to the Symphony. Your gift of physical goods, professional services, or property can be donated to the SSO, and we will convert your gift into donated cash. There are limitations to the acceptability of such items, but if you have an in-kind gift that you might consider donating to the Symphony, contact us!
Planned giving:
Besides making outright gifts to the SSO, you can also make gifts that benefit both the Symphony and you or other individuals. For example:
A charitable remainder trust pays income to you and ultimately passes to the Symphony. You get a charitable income-tax deduction for part of the gift. You can create for yourself an income stream from assets that pay little or no income without immediately triggering a capital gains income tax. Such a trust could also benefit your spouse or another person. You can even give your home, but continue to live in it for the rest of your life!
A charitable lead trust pays income to the Symphony and then passes to your children or other individuals. This allows you to pass down to those individuals substantial benefits without gift or estate taxes.
Legacy giving:
You can also leave some of your estate to the SSO in your will, either outright or in a trust described above. Such a legacy avoids estate tax and helps assure the continued survival of the Symphony. Legacies will be included in the SSO programs as a member of the "Legacy Society." You will be included if you tell us that you have named the Symphony as a legatee in your will!
Legacy giving:
In the same way the SSO supports the businesses in the community, we need the support of community businesses in return. There are as many different opportunities for your business to support the Symphony as there are businesses in the Shreveport-Bossier area. We can help you find the perfect way to support the SSO and strengthen our community while showcasing your commitment to the arts in Shreveport!
